Do you think that something big was lost in translation (literally)? I always wonder what’s not coming through when I pick up work that I can’t read in its original. That cover really is something though ❤️

It's tough to say. The translation was done by three people. They seemed to work independently, each story translation was credited to one of them. Even so, there didn't seem to be much variation in the translations. The book was a challenge that, to me, was overwhelming in terms of word volume. But those words, taken in shorter doses, are well crafted. I thought the piece I quoted was really quite powerful and beautiful.

Thanks for the review! This is a hard no for me. My brain is tired from everything going on in the world and I cannot work that hard on a novel right now, or perhaps ever.

Kate! Thanks as always for your feedback, and for reading these reviews even when the book is a hard no. I hope I can find something you like soon!

I sooo appreciate your reading some books that I feel are not for me. I am sure that you will prompt me to pick up something in the near future!!

I’ll take the quoted passage and the cover and leave the rest. 😂

Appreciate you writing a review even for a questionable/meh book.

Yes! Those are the two best takeaways IMO. It’s a drag to slog through a tough book, but that makes the little moments of beauty and the good books to come all the more exciting!
