Thank you, your review of this book and the Murdoch discussions are so intriguing - I am genuinely tempted to run out and get this book right now! In honor of the extra hour of daylight perhaps. (Also bc Murdoch was highly influenced by Austen, so I feel I have a legit work-related reason, in addition to the daylight savings reason - but who needs a reason to buy a good book, right?!)
PS: One thing I forgot to mention in my review was that this book taught me a new and interesting word: rebarbative. One of the characters learns this word, which means unattractive or objectionable, and repeats it through the story. The word reminded me of another word, reverberative, something that bells are, and I wonder if that word choice was made for this reason? 🤔
I love The Bell--so fun to see a review of this not-exactly-buzzy gem. And wow, what a reader Mina Kimes is! I need to go listen to that episode of the The Stacks.
Don’t leave us hanging about the beyond the grave tweets !
All in good time, my friend!
So glad I’m not the only one with a two-tiered bedside book stack 🫣😂
Ha! Mine has just sprouted a third tier! 😬
😂🙌

You never need a reason to buy a good book! It is a reason in itself. I hope you enjoy it!
Welp, I will be reading this because I ring the bells in our church bell tower! This definitely appeals to me!😃
Oh! That’s cool! I hope you enjoy the book!
This sounds great! The titular Bell could have been so many different things but I wasn’t at all expecting a church bell for some reason.
Thanks, Ana! I agree that a church bell is perhaps an unusual choice, but I thought that made for an even more interesting story.

Thanks! Yes! She has a great stack of books, and the podcast is worth a listen too.
For shame I have never read any iris murdoch. Is this a good jumping off point?
Yes! This or The Sea, the Sea!
Go on - which?! I note the audiobook version of The Sea, The Sea is read by Richard E Grant which is rather tipping the scales in its favour
That sounds great! I started with The Sea, the Sea, so you won’t be going wrong there.
It’s done!
A great write up of another of Murdoch's MANY gems! Thank you!
