A book I’ve loved and always remembered—enjoyed your review—forgot what a feat of writing this novel is with all the created poetry and letters.

This is my absolute favourite novel of the 20th century! I adore the story, the language, and the simultaneous immersion into Victorian literary life. It has massively inspired me for thirty years, and now that I am an author of Victorian publishing history, it seems like it might have warped my brain!

Found my way to your substack by way of another substack (twobossydames). This was the first review I read and I'm HOOKED! The movie wasn't great, but the casting of Jeremy Northam and Jennifer Ehle as Ash and Maud was perfect. Their parts are worth watching.

Ugh, clearly I meant Christabel! (I'm so embarrassed.)

Thanks, Jennifer! I'm glad you found us through Two Bossy Dames. I'm glad to hear that there are redeeming parts to the movie! I still have it on my list to watch. Hope you find some other reviews and books to enjoy!
