'Her will, like the veil strung to her bonnet, flutters in every breeze; always there is the desire urging, always the convention restraining.'—Review #200
Happy New Year! That was a great review. I like to read a few Classics during the year, but I never thought about this one. I tend to read the British. Going on my list! Hope 2023 is a good year for you and Donna!
Thanks, Kate! Great, as always, to hear from you and I appreciate the kind word. Hope 2023 is good for you and yours as well. Your note about British classics reminded me of this quote I read recently in a piece by Merve Emre: 'I believed then, as I sometimes still do, that any book first written in French counted for four books written in English.' I'm keeping this in mind as I set my reading goals for the year lol!
This was such a great review I'm convinced that I need to read this novel at some point in the near future (I normally prefer to read books written in the 21st Century).
Its' been decades since I've read Mdme. Bovary. I remember struggling with the character so much then. I wonder how I would read her now? I'm interested to find out.

Happy New Year to you, too, Kate! Here’s to a book-filled 2023!
