Glad you had such good reading on your break and a great trip. I have been having a hard time reading; I pick up a book and my mind starts to wander. I have had a better time this week reading A Town Like Alice by Nevil Shute. Not a happy story at all, but it is engaging. I finished Mother Daughter Murder Night by Nina Simon which was good, although I figured out the killer. Also finished the 4th in The Thursday Murder Club, The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman. They are on the light side, but there are bodies and real life issues tackled in each one. Happy New Year to you and Donna!
Thanks, Kate! Happy New Year to you, too! I've been having a similar struggle with reading. My mind wanders or I can't focus on the book. It's better now, too. I think I just needed some time away and some shorter fare. Diving into a big book now, so hopefully all goes well and I can pay attention! Thanks for sharing your recent reads! I'll check out those titles.
I went to an exhibition about face recognition software at the Design Museum in New York when I was there in 2019. It was fantastic. Kind of scary, but interesting.
I’ve been on a celebrity memoir tear so when this one is up on Everand/Scribd you best believe I’m on it thanks to this review! We love messy memoir. And I have to say Mike you have the bravest wildest taste in books, I love it. Rock on!
Aaaaaah!!! Two little books to add to my list of short books AND you're reading The Little Friend. Can't wait for that review--it's the only Donna book I haven't read!
It’s Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. The Kappa lives under the river (a little like the book haha) and you have to offer it cucumber for it to resurface and give you back something in return.
I just bought both "Coin in Nine Hands" and "Kappa." I can't wait to read them. Well, I can because I have to. These both feel right for reading right now and I'm looking forward to them. I never would have heard of them if not for you, so thank you! I'll be interested in your assessment of the Tartt book. I have read none of hers although I have tried more than once.
Another fantastic set of reviews. You always have the most unique and different books that make me want to seek them out! Tahoe is my dream and looks beautiful in winter ❄️
Hope it comes through in under 11 weeks!
Thanks, Calista! I hope you check out that book and enjoy it. Happy New Year!
Three wonderful reviews - Happy New Year Mike! The picture of Lake Tahoe is beautiful.
Thanks, Martha! Happy New Year to you, too! I hope you read 'Down the Drain.' Would love to read your thoughts!
Thank you! And I will read it - I just saw it’s only £10 on Amazon today so I might have to grab it. I’d love to give my thoughts!!

Love your reviews and the AI generated image is fun. I would love to go to that exhibition, it sounds cool.
Thanks, Marg! I stumbled upon the exhibition completely by accident, but it was really interesting. The whole museum is a gem!

I haven’t been to that museum in years. Thanks for the reminder that I’m due to go back!

Thanks! What messy memoir should I tackle next?
I would love to hear what you think about Jessica Simpson's Open Book or Paris Hilton's or Pam Anderson (haven't read the last two yet)!
Jessica Simpson’s book has been on my radar. Ditto Demi Moore and Britney

Thanks! I hope you check out those books. Enjoying the little friend so far!
One of my favorite video games has a Kappa character in it and it’s favorite food is a cucumber like the one in the picture 😂
What game is that? Sounds awesome.

That's so exciting, Betsy! I hope you enjoy them! In the meantime, I'm trying to push through the Tartt book to have the newsletter done on time!
