One thing I forgot to mention in the newsletter is that 'Scruples' was apparently turned into a TV miniseries starring Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman!) as Billy. It also included Barry Bostwick and Kim Cattrall. I looked for it, but it's not streaming anywhere that I could find.
Busted out laughing at the “I’m a little trashy” gif. 😂
Billy Winthrop Ikehorn Orsini
WHAT A MOUTHFUL!
“This storytelling reminded me of when you’re at a bar with a friend who is telling you an interesting but long story—and suddenly their third drink kicks in.” 😂😂😂
Shrieked at the $55,000 Rolls Royce. Ha! Cries in inflation. 🫠
Thanks so much, Jenovia! Glad you enjoyed the review! I said that line to Donna last night over dinner and she was like: That's going in the newsletter.
I was also like, wow 55 grand for a Rolls isn't too bad! 😂
Thanks, Pam! I'll check those out! I was originally thinking that if I return to Krantz's work, I'd try 'I'll Take Manhattan,' because I love the title.
I stopped the other day on page 233. The digressions/rambling/back story was just too much for me. I know I read it in the same paperback when I was 17 probably (my parents let me read anything and everything and this was not my mom’s reading area). We passed it around on the beach. This time, flying to Florida I was bored. Excellent, funny review which was much better than the book itself. Hope your 4th was lovely; mine was spent with family and was great (except for lack of reading time which can make a person cranky) and we were with folks we only see once or twice a year. Hi to Donna!!
Thanks, Kate! The front and back halves of the book were so different in terms of pace, style and energy. I really struggled as the story wore on. It became so blah. I totally understand why you put it aside. Glad you had a good Fourth! Ours was good and quiet, except for the neighborhood fireworks lol!
I'll definitely steer clear of this one. Reading about rich people having rich people problems makes me break out in hives. Although maybe I'll see if I can find more about the miniseries, as I'll gladly watch Barry Bostwick ("Asshole!") in anything.

Ah! The original bonkbuster!
I should say that I'm more of Jilly Cooper girl. Her books are genuinely funny although definitely dated.
I'll check those out!
I was unfamiliar with this term until, like, two hours ago 😂
This was SPECTACULAR! Hilarious! So fun!

Donna is a genius!
Yes, she is!
A child of the 80s, I read Scruples and Mistral’s Daughter, but my favorite was Princess Daisy.

You and Donna are giving me life 😂☺️🤗
Ha! Thanks, Amy!
I love your analogy of your friend telling you a story and it lacking lustre. Still, you make the book sound good!
Thanks, Kolina!
574 pages? That better be some good trash. The names. My mom’s nightstand is gonna give you a call.☎️
Ha! Yeah, there definitely needed to be more trash for a book this long!
This is giving me Soapdish vibes.

Ha! In that case, Justin, you're wise to skip 'Scruples.' If you find the miniseries streaming somewhere, let me know!
